what is the best weld on a longitudinal seam on a piece of black steel ductwork?
the best weld would be to use a TIG welder due to the fact that the duct is probably thin. If you don't have access to one you can do it with a MIG welder. use .023 solid wire and make sure the surfaces are clean and prepared before you start to weld it. When you start to weld only do short stitch welds an inch or two long with the same amount of space between. After you reach the end go back and fill in the spaces in between or just leave them unwelded and seal them with a sealant. the more heat you put on a thin piece of steel the more it will distort and end up looking like crap. So the idea is the less weld to do the job the better. good luck and take your time.
